He was grilled as a witness
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Monday questioned former chief of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Sutrisno Bachir as a witness in an alleged graft case at the Health Ministry in 2006.

"He was grilled as a witness," KPK spokesman Johan Budi said in a short message service text.

Budi said that Sutrisno was questioned for three-and-a-half hours in connection with the alleged graft case surrounding the procurement of medical instruments to fight bird flu virus.

The former PAN chief underwent questioning to testify to the involvement of the former director of the ministry`s basic medical service development, Ratna Dewi Umar, he said.

The anti-graft body earlier said it had found indications of corruption related to the procurement of medical instruments and interrogated a number of witnesses, including former health minister Siti Fadilah Supari.

The commission has named Ratna Dewi Umar as a suspect since May 2010 and former secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for People`s Welfare Soetedjo Juwono as a suspect since September 3, 2009.

Both are accused of marking up the project to Rp98 billion, thereby inflicting Rp32 billion in losses on the state.(*)
