Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The general chairman of Golkar Party, Aburizal Bakrie, said the party would remain in the coalition to support the government until the end of its terms in 2014.

"We think the new contract for coalition membership is not confining and uniforming member parties. Golkar will sign the contract," he said on the sidelines of lobster maiden harvest in Cogrek village, Parung, Bogor, West Java, on Saturday.

The event was also attended by deputy treasurer of the ruling Democrat Party, Airlangga Hartarto, and other Golkar leaders.

Aburizal said each party still carries its identity under the new contract.

Before Golkar vice general chairman Agung Laksono said that Aburizal still continued communicating with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the chief patron of the Democrat Party in connection with the draft contract.

"The draft has not yet been finished. It is still being communicated by Pak Ical (Aburizal) and President SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono)," he said on Thursday.

Agung said the communication was done to find a good compromise especially for all coalition member parties in the Joint Secretariat.

The new contract, he said, would later be used not only for the interest of coalition member parties but also the national interest and with it the performance of the coalition is expected to be better and more useful for the community.

Golkar secretary general Idrus Marham meanwhile said that there was no new contract for coalition membership as what happened was mere strengthening the points of contract already signed before.

"The political contract that is just being communicated according to Golkar is not a new contract but a deal to strengthen the contract signed before," he said here on Friday.

Following his victory in the presidential election in 2009, President Yudhoyono in an effort to assure smooth completion of his term until 2014 signed a political contract with several political parties agreed to support him.

In the development some coalition members however have clashed with his party. In a recent vote on the need for the House of Representatives to set up an inquiry committee on alleged tax mafia two coalition members voted against the Democrat Party leading to the renewal of the contract.
