Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said he had frozen the activities of 30 out of about 500 existing migrant workers recruitment agencies (PJTKIs) for sub-standard performance.

"Actually , out of the existing 500 agencies , as many as 120 are believed to be not performing according to the required standards. But so far, I have frozen the activities of only 30 of them while waiting for the results of an audit on the performance of the 90 other agencies over the next two weeks," Muhaimin told the press at the State Palace here Wednesday.

According to the minister, the 30 agencies had their activities frozen because they were proven to be careless, inconsistent and had made the same mistakes over and over again.

There were three points to be evaluated from the event, namely to revamp the domestic system, moratorium application in several countries or tightening mechanism, and reduction of labor placement for the informal sector.

"The moratorium is now applicable to certain countries, namely, Jordan, Malaysia and Kuwait. We have shut down these three countries for evaluation and if the results turn out to be good, there`s a chance for us to re-open the placement," he said.

Earlier at the 2011 Tripartite Cooperation Institutions Consultation Meeting opening ceremony, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered to form a cross-ministry evaluation team to evaluate the migrant worker placement destination countries.

In the future Indonesia will also reduce the informal sector workforce and encourage employment in the formal sector.(*)
