Cairo (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Sanaa evacuates 24 citizens as the first group due to the ongoing political crisis in Yemen, an official told ANTARA here Thursday (April 14) evening.

Rendy Ramanda, Embassy Protocol Chief said the first group of the evacuation included 10 women, six toddlers and eight students.

They were expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, on board Emirates Airlines on Friday at 3.40 pm local time. Earlier they had a transit in Dubai for 14 hours.

Rendy said the Indonesians were mostly students of Al Imam University in Sanaa, a target of Yemeni government supporters because believed to be a base of the opposition group under Syeikh Abdul Majid Al Zindani.

Ambassador Aulia expressed gratitude to the Indonesian government for the evacuation from the southernmost country of Arabia.

"The evacuation is in apprehension because of the worsening political and security situation in Yemen recently," Ambassador Aulia was quoted by Rendy as saying.

The Ambassador reminded Indonesians that the evacuation was not an opportunity to come home free, because it was not a vacation .

The evacuation of the first group took three weeks due to several constraints, especially the application for exit permits was different.

The embassy planned to evacuate another 41 Indonesians in the second group in the next week or two.

By that time, 71 Indonesians, most of them students, stayed at the embassy and ordinary homes for their protection.(*)
