"Indonesia will take part in celebrating Tlemcen as Capital of Islamic Culture by holding an Indonesian Islamic Cultural Week," Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria Yuli Mumpuni Widarso told an ANTARA correspondent based in Cairo, on Tuesday.
Tlemcen was declared as Capital of Islamic Culture 2011 at OIC ministers meeting held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2009.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika last week-end officially inaugurated the year-long festival, attended by culture ministers from OIC member states, foreign ambassadors and local officials.
An arts troupe of the Indonesian embassy in Algeria led by Yasfitha Febriani Murthias also took part in the opening ceremony on April 15.
Clad in traditional attire from different provinces in Indonesia, the arts troupe performed an angklung traditional music show to accompany Salawat Badar (short prayers consisting of verses from the Koran).
The Indonesian Islamic Cultural Week scheduled for September 5-12 will feature a series of activities, including photograph, calligraphic and batik exhibitions, dances, theater, film and seminar.(*)
