Islamabad (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Twenty-three key militants surrendered to security forces in northwest Pakistan`s restive tribal area on Thursday, local media quoting officials sources reported.

According to the official news agency APP, a grand Jirga of Mohmand tribes was held at tehsil Mohmand in which 23 important militants surrendered to security forces and promised to lead a peaceful life and abide by law of the land in future.

The militants who belonged to different areas of Bajaur tribal area bordering Afghanistan were wanted by Pakistani security forces since last three years for their involvement in anti-state activities.

Officials said that with the surrender of these 23 militants, the number of total surrendered militants in Bajaur has reached 2, 000 in two-and-a-half years.

Tribal elders on this occasion pledged that no anti-social element would be tolerated in the area and complete assistance and support would be provided to the security forces in maintaining law and order in the region. (*)
