Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The suspected mastermind of the recent book-bomb scare campaign and the failed bombing attack in Serpong (Banten province), a man whose initial was P, offered a national TV cameraman exclusive coverage of the planned action in Serpong, police said on Saturday,

National Police Headquarters spokesman Boy Rafli Amar was referring to the powerful bomb the police had found under a gas pipeline of state gas company PGN at Cihuni village, Serpong, Banten province, last April 21. The spot was only 100 meters away from the Christ Cathedral at Serpong where the explosive device was to be detonated by the terrorists on Friday (April 22) at 9 am when the church`s members would be holding an Easter mass at 10 am.

"P is known to have called IF , the TV cameraman, to inform the latter about the p[planned terror action in Serpong and suggested that IF also pass on the tip off to other journalists," Boy said.

Boy said P had friends among media workers since he once worked as a member of a TV program crew. Police suspected that P evolved the idea to directly involve journalists in the planned bombing action to gain prominent publicity.

Boy said the police were still questioning IF and would not make him a suspect if he proved not to be associated with the terror action. According to a preliminary investigation, Boy said, IF had not been recruited but was only about to be used by P to get more media expose.

So far, the police have questioned 20 people regarding the bomb found in Serpong.(*)
