Around 350 houses are inundated by floods triggered by heavy rains that lashed an Indonesia-Malaysia border region in Badau, Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan Province.
"The road access in central Badau has been inundated by floods that have affected around 350 houses of locals," Badau Sub-district head Pane Pasogit stated when contacted by ANTARA in Kapuas Hulu on Thursday.
He noted that the floods were induced by torrential rains on Wednesday (April 24), at 8 p.m. local time, which led to the overflowing of Badau River, submerging houses, roads, and other public facilities.
According to Pasogit, the floodwaters had started to subside, with the water depth declining to only 30-50 centimeters.
Pasogit remarked that Badau had faced similar floods that did not last long. However, he noted that such disasters had been disrupting the local residents' activities.
"Floods have forced residents to build some kind of platforms inside their houses to sleep and store their house appliances," he pointed out.

The official then remarked that the shallowing of Badau River coupled with its interrupted water flow had resulted in the river easily overflowing during heavy rains despite residents of Badau Village having taken an anticipatory measure of conducting a river cleanup.
"People in Badau Village have tried to clean up the river. Maybe, we also need to take a similar initiative in Janting Village in order to keep the river flow smooth, so that inundation can subside quicker," he stated.
He went on to appeal to residents to not throw litter into the river and stay alert against the potential for future floods.
Meanwhile, Head of the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Gunawan urged people to be aware of various potential disasters, such as floods, landslides, and whirlwinds.
"The weather recently has been uncertain, marked by a high intensity of rain and frequent strong winds and lightning strikes. Hence, we would like to appeal to residents to remain alert and stay calm when facing a disaster while prioritizing safety," he emphasized.
He further remarked that the BPBD would continue to monitor the condition in Kapuas Hulu and had urged local officials to submit reports regarding the situation to the agency to enable it to take necessary steps.
