Presidential special staff coordinator Ari Dwipayana conveyed Jokowi's remarks on Thursday in response to the president's meeting with Prabowo and Gibran at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on late Wednesday.
"President Jokowi commended initiatives and efforts made by the president- and vice president-elect to embrace all national components in our collective efforts to realize an advanced Indonesia," Dwipayana stated.
He quoted Jokowi as saying that national unity is needed when Indonesia, at this time, should act swiftly to mitigate the potential effects of the global economy and political uncertainty.
Dwipayana revealed that Prabowo and Gibran requested the meeting to personally inform Jokowi about the electoral commission's declaration that officially made them president-elect and vice president-elect.
Jokowi expressed hope that the new government will promptly work for the nation after their inauguration on October 20, Dwipayana added.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) on Wednesday officiated Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the president- and vice-president-elect, as their rivals' efforts to challenge the February 14 poll results were quashed by the Constitutional Court.
The court, reading their election dispute verdict on Monday, found that the requests by Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD to annul Prabowo-Gibran's election win were legally not reasonable.
In response to the court ruling, Jokowi also affirmed that he would authorize the transition of leadership to the president- and vice president-elect to commence.
