Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Boediono and his family watched an opera entitled Tan Malaka at Graha Bakti Budaya, Ismail Marzuki Art Park (TIM), central Jakarta, Saturday evening.

He was accompanied by his wife, Herawati Boediono, his grandchildren and daughters-in law.

The vice president was welcomed by Goenawan Muhammad, the director of Tan Malaka, the three-round opera. Goenawan Muhammad is concurrently senior journalist and a man of culture.

The opera performance was organized as part of the commemoration of the Tempo Magazine`s 40th anniversary.

Tan Malaka was performed at Salihara Theater in October last year.

"The concept has been improved, and currently the approach is more poetic and imaginative," Goenawan said.

Other prominent figures watching the opera included Adnan Buyung Nasution (senior lawyer), Butet Kertaradjasa (artist), Usman Hamid, Ulil Absar Abdalla.

Tan Malaka, mysterious figure, was awarded a status of hero of national liberty by the then president Soekarno. He had no grave, however, because his body was reportedly thrown into Kalibrantas River, according to information on his Facebook.

The first name of Tan Malaka is Ibrahim, while Tan Malaka is the title which was given by his family when he grew up. His full name is Ibrahim Gelar Datuk Tan Malaka, but he was called Tan Malaka.

Tan Malaka was born in 1897 in Pandan Gadang (now called "Pandan Besar") 5 kilometers west of Suliki, Padang, West Sumatra. However, there are many versions about Tan Malaka`s birth and death.

He was one of the philosophers in Indonesia who created a new -ism in his book "Madilog" (Materialisme, Dialektika, Logika) which was written in the 1942-1943 period and published by Teplok Press in 2000. The first publication was in 1951 by Widjaya Printing.
