"Such a conference will be the third of its kind to discuss the results of scientific research and to exploit various dynamics among Aceh people who are in the process of consolidation and transformation."Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - Scientists from ten countries will attend an International Center for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS) conference here on May 25-26, 2011.
The scientists are expected to discuss the outcomes of their research on Aceh and Indian Ocean, ICAIOS spokesman Saiful Mahdi said here on Tuesday.
"Such a conference will be the third of its kind to discuss the results of scientific research and to exploit various dynamics among Aceh people who are in the process of consolidation and transformation," Saiful Mahdi said.
He said ICAIOS held its first ever conference in 2007 to discuss post December 26, 2004`s tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction process.
While the second conference in 2009 discussed further development in Aceh four years after the tsunami, and Aceh peace process which was signed on August 15, 2005.
"In the third conference, the scientists from ten countries will present 55 papers about the results of their research in the past few years," Saiful said.
According to him, the papers are about politics, post conflict consolidation, governance and legal issues, culture, religion, gender, representation, social and economic change, environment, and history.
Saiful said the scientists would come from Germany, Britain, Australia, the United States, Turkey, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, the Netherlands, Finland, and from other areas in Indonesia.
"The conference will be attended by around 200 scientists from those ten countries," Saiful said.
He said ICAIOS was established jointly by Aceh government and three state colleges in the province namely Syiah Kuala University, Ar Raniry State Islamic Institute, and Malikul Saleh University.
According to Saiful, research and technology ministry, public figures, academicians, as well as national and international colleges are involved in the International Center for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies to strengthen research on Aceh.
