"The central and regional governments, the private sector and the local community must be actively involved in this program," Helen Clark said when visiting Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.
"The Indonesian Government is on the right path of progress, and has a chance to cut the carbon emission in accordance with the ambitious target of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono up to 26 percent by 2020," she said.
The UNDP administrator said the people could participate in the reduction of carbon emission within the REDD scheme by not buying goods coming from illegal logging activities.
She also hoped that the private sector could also provide certification on the origin of the products that they sell because consumers need to know the origins of the products.
Helen, the former prime minister of New Zealand, said for the UNDP, the important thing is how the people could get benefit from the REDD program.
Central Java Governor Agustin Teras Narang said that he and his staff continued the public campaign on REDD+ Program in his province.
The Central Government based on the presidential decree no. 19/2010 has set up a task force to handle REDD program under the presidential working unit on the Development Supervision and Control field led by Kuntoro Mangkusubroto.
REDD Plus is the extension of climate change mitigation approach from forestry to other sectors such as agriculture, plantation, mining and energy, or other utilization of forest resources.
