In the five-minute message, Suu Kyi talked about ASEAN and democracy.
She said Myanmar was part of ASEAN and the Myanmar people wanted to work more closely with the peoples of other ASEAN member countries.
"ASEAN is very important for our future, and we hope that we will also be very important for ASEAN," she said.
She reaffirmed her commitment to promote democracy in her country for the sake of achieving a better life for the people.
Suu Kyi said she was impressed by the political transition in Indonesia which had managed to change the previous authoritarian regime into a democratic government.
"We also want the best for our region, and the best for the world," she said.
Meanwhile, Erna Witoelar, a United Nations representative for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), said civil societies considered important to strengthen the relations among ASEAN peoples, among other things by screening the video message of Suu Kyi.
The ACSC/APF 2011 was organized in parallel with the ASEAN Summit (May 7-8) as a platform to exchange ideas and provide inputs to ASEAN leaders and policy makers.
During their three-day meeting the NGO activists will discuss the impact of ASEAN policies. They will present the outcome of the meeting to the ASEAN leaders at an interface meeting held on the sidelines of the 18th ASEAN Summit on May 7.
ACSC/APF is an annual meeting of ASEAN civil societies held ahead of the ASEAN Summit. The meeting will bring together 800 participants from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Singapore.
At the meeting ,they will discuss a wide range of issues in the fields of economy, security, environment, human rights and gender.(*)
