"The shooting is still under investigation. We do want to know as precisely as possible what actually happened, and therefore we need the public to support us by giving whatever relevant information they have," Pradopo said here on Saturday.
Pradopo and National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Admiral Agus Suhartono are on a three-day working visit to Timikia from Friday until Sunday to inspect border areas in Merauke and Jayapura districts.
The National Police chief also called for the public`s support for the police`s efforts to solve the Freeport shooting incident that happened early in April and took the lives of two Freeport workers.
Two Freeport security employees, namely Daniel Mansawan and Hari Siregar, were found dead after their car was torched at Tanggul Timur Mil 37 MA 220 on the road to Kampung Nayaro in the district of Mimika, Papua, one Thursday night in early April this year.
After the incident, bullet holes were found on the body of the car.
Daniel Mansawan was buried in Timika and Hari Siregar in Jakarta.
Prodopo said a National Police forensic team was assigned to take part in the investigation of the accident to bring it to a quikcer solution.
Earlier, National Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar who was in the TNI and Police chiefs entourage, had said Pradopo`s working visit to Timika had nothing to do with the Freeport shooting incident.
"It is a normal working visit by the TNI chief to give directives to TNI and Police personnel in Timika and observe their conditions in the field. So there is nothing special in it," Boy said.
