Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The construction of a SEA Games athletes dormitory in Palembang, South Sumatra, will continue despite it being plagued by corruption and bribery issues.

"The construction of the SEA Games` athletes dormitory will continue despite it being often mentioned in unfavorable news," Deputy chairman of the SEA Games organizing committee, Djoko Pramono said in a discussion on the alleged bribery case here on Saturday.

He said there was no problem with the construction of the SEA Games project which was expected to be completed next October so that it could be used soon.

The construction of the athletes` accomodation facility was at the center of a bribery case involving PT Duta Graha Indah which won the tender for the project.

The project had become the spotlight of news following the arrest of the secretary to the minister for youth and sports affairs, Wafid Muharram, by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at his office on April 21, 2011.

At the time, Wafid was receiving guests, namely Marketing Director of PT Anak Negeri Mindo Rosalina Manulang and Marketing Director of Pt Duata Graha Indah Muhammad El Idris.

The KPK officers found a check amounting to Rp3.2 billion in his office.

When she was grilled by the KPK, Rosalina Manulang said her superior was Muhammad Nazaruddin, general treasurer of the Democrat Party.

But after a week, she changed her statement, saying she did not know Nazaruddin.
