Beijing (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale hit Solomon Islands at 2:37 a.m. Beijing Time Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 6.1 degrees south latitude and 154.4 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 40 kilometers, the center said.

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted Bougainville region, Papua New Guinea at 18: 37:10 GMT Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 43.20 km, was initially determined to be at 6.1575 degrees south latitude and 154.4459 degrees east longitude. (*)
