Taipei (ANTARA News/CNA) - The head of a child welfare foundation said Sunday that according the results of a recent survey, the largest number of accidents involving children occur at home.

The Taipei-based Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation conducted the survey in conjunction with the Taipei city government to analyze the causes and locations of accidents involving elementary school children.

The survey said the most frequently occurring accidents among children in the home are children being accidentally locked in (98.3 percent).

Foundation Chief Executive Lin Yueh-chin also said that many parents lock their children into the house when they need to run errands, overlooking the potential hazards that their children might face, such as tripping, burning themselves, choking, being poisoned or falling from a window or balcony.

Although the law stipulates that children 6 years of age and younger must never be left unattended, Lin advised parents that even older children should not be left unattended.
