"I think whatever the news we need to remain alert," Ahmad Heryawan said when on a motorcycle tour covering a distance of 54 kilometers in West Java through Purwakarta and Subang Tuesday.
He also said that he will still coordinate with the head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics agency (BMKG) for more accurate data on earthquakes from Presidential Special Staff for Social and Disaster Affairs Andi Arief in a discussion in Jakarta Sunday.
"BMKG is an institution with the highest authority in issuing a statement on quakes," Heryawan said.
"It is true that a quake may strike Java Island to Papua, but Kalimantan has no such potential. I believe that there will be a quake on each day but in small scale below 9 on the Richter scale, and therefore is not noteworthy," Heryawan said.
He said that in anticipating natural disasters including quakes, the West Java provincial administration has already familiarized natural mitigations, so that the general public would become more familiar with what they need to do in such urgent cases, he said. (*)
