Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The ruling Democrat Party (PD) supports negotiations between the finance minister and the West Nusa Tenggara governor over the divestment stake of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT), its general chairman said.

"There will be a discussion between Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo and NTB Governor TGH M Zainul Majdi, and we will support it," PD General Chairman Anas Urbaningrum said here on Tuesday.

The central government had agreed to purchase seven percent NNT`s 2010 divestment stake on May 6, 2011, which was the last phase of NNT`s divestment process.

However, the people and regional government of West Nusa Tenggara have protested the deal between NNT and the central government, demanding that the last divestment state of seven percent should be offered to them.

Anas acknowledged that the Indonesian government had acquired the 2010 divestment stake of Newmont, yet he emphasized that the government in this case included the NTB government.

"The central and regional governments are one entity. Now, what remains to be done is that the central government and regional government are to negotiate," he said.

He said that in this case the finance minister would meet with the governor to negotiate over the Newmont divestment stake.(*)
