"The people`s income per capita will continue to be increased to reach up to US$14,900 in 2025 to make the country become one of the 12 new world economic powers."
Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s chief economic minister said the government would strive to increase the people`s per capita income to US$5,000 by 2014.

Hatta Rajasa, the coordinating minister for economic affairs, said at Muhammadiyah University here on Friday "The people`s income per capita will continue to be increased to reach up to US$14,900 in 2025 to make the country become one of the 12 new world economic powers."

At the national working meeting of Aisyiyah executive board and the commemoration of the 97th anniversary of Muhammadiyah`s women organization Hatta said the government hoped after the 100th anniversary of the country`s independence the country`s income per capita would reach US$46,900 to make the country become the seventh biggest economy in the world.

"This has been put in the `Master Plan Vision for 2025` on Indonesia`s economic development acceleration," he said.

He also said the national economy was considered 'dead' in 2008 as the country`s per capita income was recorded at only US$500 while ideally at the time it should be between US$4,000 and US$5,000. Therefore efforts were then made to increase it to US$3,000 in 2010 and to US$5,000 by 2014.

In view of that he said all efforts would be taken to achieve the goal such as developing subsidized low-cost houses, clean water projects, cheap transportation facilities, cheap electricity and improving the welfare of fishermen.

"The efforts will help reduce the rate of poverty which has so far hindered the development of the country`s economy," he said.

He said the government had so far been able to reduce the rate by up to 13.3 percent.

"The disparity among community members has been at 0.331 which is far better than India and China," he said.

The general chair person of Aisyiah, Siti Noordjannah Djohantini, meanwhile said on the occasion that poverty had remained to be a burden and homework for the nation to finish. It had caused problems such as gaps, human trafficking and violences, she said.

She said "Aisyiyah has strong commitment to empower the people`s economy and businesses to alleviate poverty." (H-YH/A/HAJM/17:35/a014)
