Other assistance -- including medical supplies, tents, uniforms, sandbags, flak jackets -- "will be delivered in the coming weeks," spokesman Colonel Dave Lapan said in an email.
The first shipment of the ready-to-eat meals arrived in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi on May 10 after the United States announced plans nearly a month ago to provide non-lethal assistance to the rebels.
In a speech Thursday on protest movements sweeping the Arab world, President Barack Obama described the rebels` National Transitional Council as "legitimate and credible."
But Washington has yet to formally recognize the group, which is based in Benghazi.
The United States is supporting a NATO-led air campaign designed to protect civilians against Kadhafi`s regime. (*)
