The landslide and a flash flood blocked some roads and seriously damaged 14 houses and a bridge, Nglebo Village Head Nurwahyudi said here Saturday.
"Until now, mud and rocks have not been removed while local volunteers are busy building an emergency bridge to replace the collapsed one," he said.
Relief aid was distributed by volunteers who had to walk to reach the remote and isolated villages.
Incessant heavy rains have triggered the landslide and flash floods in eight sub districts, namely Trenggalek, Karangan, Suruh, Pogalan, Gandusari, Kampak, Munjungan and Watulimo.
Trenggalek District Head Mulyadi and his entourage visited Nglebo village to meet the natural disaster victims, but they could not reach worst hit Mojo and Salam because the bridge to the two kampongs had collapsed.
Meanwhile, a landslide and whirlwind, triggered by incessant heavy rains, had hit Bogor, West Java, on May 16.
"The landslide killed two miners, and up to now the victims` bodies are still buried under the mud," Budi Aksomo, the head of the Bogor rapid response team (TRC), said.
The evacuation process carried out by 20 members of TRC, had been very difficult because the mud at the mining location was 20 meters deep.(*)
