Hanoi (ANTARA News/Xinhua-0ANA) - A total of 16 people were confirmed dead in a boat mishap with the last body was found in the sunken boat by 03:43 p.m. local time Saturday, according to VNexpress online.

VNexpress quoted Tran Van Nam, Vice Chairman of Binh Duong People`s Committee, as saying that the boy of a 9-year-old boy was found dead, but his body was stuck in the boat and hard to drag out. Rescue people are trying to get the boat out of the water.

The accident was happened on Friday night when a Chinese man named Guo, married with a Vietnamese, held a birthday party for his 3-year-old son on the coat on Saigon River, southern Vietnam when the boat met with strong wind and heavy rains.

Guo said his family has 12 people attending the birthday party, including his mother-in-law, his two younger brothers, his wife and two children. Only Guo was safe from the accident.

Xu Mingliang, the Chinese consul-general in Ho Chi Minh City said there are 21 people on the boat when the accident happened, but only five people survived, including two Chinese.

By around 04:15 p.m. local time, Chinese consul in Ho Chi Minh City Zhu Zhigang confirmed with Xinhua that among the 16 bodies, there are four Chinese, including two Guo`s brothers and two of his friends.

Earlier in the afternoon, local media said the dead 3-year-old boy and another girl were Chinese. Zhu said Guo`s children were Vietnamese citizens.

Twenty divers and five boats were used for the ongoing rescue work.(*)
