Among the officials attending the meeting at the religious affairs ministry were National Police chief General Timur Pradopo, Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi and head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Ansyaad Mbai.
"This is only a forum for information exchange and a routine one," Suryadharma Ali said.
He said the meeting was held with regard to preventing NII ideology to enter into educational institutions under the purview of the religious affairs ministry such as madrasahs (Islamic schools) and Islamic universities.
"We ask rectors at religious high learning institutes to prevent their institutions from being penetrated by radical ideologies," he said.
He is also encouraging them to boost activities of student organizations that have established.
"Each ministry and institutions have their own authority. To assure right implementation of the authority we therefore hold exchange of views," he said.
Suryadharma Ali said during the meeting they presented their response to the emergence of radicalism and the recent arrest of suspected NII members.
"This is important for the ministry of religious affairs to be able to know various information from intelligence sources that the office could not get,"he said.
