Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The deputy chairman of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Hajriyanto Tohari, has called for the use of rational diplomacy instead of primordial and emotional jargon in Indonesia`s relations with Malaysia.

"The use of jargon such as `Indonesia and Malaysia are of one family` must be ended," he said in his speech at the launching of "Soft Power Approach Indonesia-Malaysia" , a book written by Musni Umar at the House of Representatives` press room here on Tuesday.

The politician from the Golkar Party said relations between the two countries must be based on rationality such as an international law in the field of manpower.

He said diplomacy based on jargon like `same family` was no longer relevant and it would only create repeated problems between the two countries.

The use of such jargon also lacked justification and legitimacy for building relations between the two countries, he said.

Hajriyanto said Indonesia must conduct relations with Malaysia like it does with other countries.

To underline his view he refers to the case in relations with Saudi Arabia. He said Indonesia could not just rely on the common religion of the two countries` peoples in relations with Saudi Arabia. "It cannot be done that day. Rationality must be put forward," he said.

He said jargon like "we are peoples of the same stock" should only be used for mere courtesy purposes but when it comes to formal relations rationality must be put forward.

Principles of equality and mutual benefit must become a must for building relations referring to Singapore as an example. He said Singapore has never been willing to sign an extradition treaty with Indonesia because of the fact that a lot of Indonesian corrupters have gone there to avoid laws.

"So, if we want to bluff we must just do it and must not withhold upon a reason that we are of the same stock," he said.

The president director of LKBN ANTARA, Mukhlis Yusuf, at the same occasion said rationality must be based on data and information.

So, the settlement of cases in the relations between the two countries must be based on data, information and objective evidence, he said.
