Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Air force chiefs of staff of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) agreed to improve regional stability by strengthening cooperation that has gone well so far to support the creation of ASEAN Community in 2015.

Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Imam Sufaat said at the 8th Conference of ASEAN Air Force Chiefs of Staff in Huan Hin, Thailand, on Wednesday the cooperation was aimed at increasing the good relations between the region`s air forces.

"The cooperation is also intended for improving the capability of ASEAN air forces in military as well as non-combat military operations," he said in a statement received by ANTARA News.

Imam said besides regional stability the meeting also discussed cooperation in non-combat military operations (OMSP).

"We also agreed to increase cooperation in natural disaster handling," he said.

Through the annual forum he said the ASEAN air forces would continue to build strong cooperation foundation for helping each other and contribute with humanitarian and natural disaster assistance.

The conference was held for building strong cooperation foundation and mechanisms among the air forces of ASEAN countries.

Imam also reminded about the importance of airman to airman talks to improve cooperation mechanisms and procedures and sharing of experience among members.

The conference would last until Thursday (June 16).(*)
