"The Mataram-Kuala Lumpur route has been suspended since June 10. We plan to serve it again early July, depending on the condition," the airline company`s branch manager in Mataram, H. Kisworo, said on Friday.
The suspension followed instruction from the airline company`s head office as two Merpati Boeing 7300 planes were undergoing maintenance, he said.
He said the suspension did not inflict losses on customers who had booked tickets.
"As a matter of fact, we advised customers who had booked tickets to use other airlines. We also bore extra charges. We did these all for the sake of customers` convenience," he said.
He said Merpati had served the route for a quite long time to provide easy air transport services to the people of West Nusa Tenggara employed in Malaysia.
Merpati was cooperating with a number of Indonesian migrant worker placement agencies (PJTKI) in dispatching migrant workers to the neighboring country, he said.
"That is why we have notified Merpati`s suspension of flight to Malaysia to all PJTKIs as our work partners. And they said they had no problem with it," he said.
