Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Soeparno and the new Marine Attache at the US Embassy in Indonesia, Miguel A. Avila, reached the agreement during a closed-door meeting at the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Headquarters here on Monday.
In general, they discussed at the meeting all kinds of cooperation between the two navies, particularly the marine corps had established and would establish, spokesman of the National Defence Forces (TNI) Commodore Tri Prasodjo said.
"At the meeting they talked about developments in discussions of a plan to conduct joint exercises dubbed "Carat", "Marex" and "Rimpac 2012" due to take place in Hawaii," he said.
Lt. Col. Miguel A. Avila said his side would support any effort to enhance the existing good cooperation between the two navies, marine corps in particular.
Earlier, Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Soeparno asked the US to improve the materials of joint exercises the two navies had conducted so far. Both the Indonesian and US Navies agreed to give additional materials of their joint exercises in the future, including joint operation of submarines and minesweepers.
