Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former justice and human rights minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra on Monday filed a lawsuit with the Jakarta State Administrative Court against Attorney General Basrief Arief over the extension of his overseas travel ban for another year.

"I have come to file a lawsuit against Attorney General Basrief Arief," he told reporters at the court.

The Attorney General`s Office had earlier applied for the extension of the overseas travel ban on Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Hartono Tanoesudibyo whom it had named suspects in alleged corruption involving an online registration service at the Law and Human Rights Ministry.

Tanoesudibyo was former proxy of the shareholders of PT Sarana Rekatama Dinamika (SRD) which ran the online registration service.

Yusril said the Attorney General`s Office`s application for the extension of his overseas travel ban for another year starting June 26 was based on an old immigration law (number 9 of 2009) which was no longer in force.

Meanwhile, under the new immigration law (number 6 of 2011), overseas travel bans lasted for only six months, he said.

He added the accused only mentioned the identities of the plaintiff as the subject of law who was subjected to travel ban, namely full name, age/birth date, sex, nationality, residence, religion, job and education.

"Under article 94 sub-article (2), the decision on travel ban issued by the authorized official must carry among others the photograph of the person subjected to the travel ban," he said.

He was of the view that the decision to extend his overseas travel ban was against the law and therefore, there was strong reason to declare it null and void as it was legally no longer in force.

Spokesman for the Attorney General`s Office Noor Rachmad said last Friday the extension of travel ban for the two suspects was because they were still needed in the investigation of the case.

"As long as the investigation is not completed, the travel ban remains valid," he said.
