Semarang (ANTARA News) - President Director of state power company PT PLN Dahlan Iskan eventually decided to cancel its plan to switch off PT Indonesia Power, as the power plant at Tambak Lorok, Semarang, will get its gas supply from Gundih block in next 15 years.

"Last year I came here to convey my plan to switch off the Tambak Lorok steam-powered electric plant (PLTU) and steam- and gas-powered electric plant (PLTGU) causing their employees to lose their job. PT Indonesia Power was supposed to be switched off as it only cause a loss to PLN," the PLN chief said here on Tuesday.

He said PT Indonesia Power was supposed to be switched off because it has caused PLN a loss of Rp9 trillion, and on the other hand it will save Rp 9 trillion if it gets gas supplies.

On Tuesday, Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Zahedy will plant the gas pipeline from Gundih block to the Tambak Lorok power plants.

"Actually, the 50 MMSCFD gas supplies from Gundih block would be rather inadequate because it cannot supply one block, which therefore needs to be increased," Dahlan Iskan said.

Negotiations between PLN and PT Sumber Petrindo Perkasa produced an agreement to increase the gas supply to 100 MMSCFD, for which PLN was willing to amend the contract. (*)
