The son of former chief of Army Special Forces (RPKAD, now called Kopassus, now the late Sarwo Edhie Wibowo, and younger brother of First Lady Ani Susilo Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, is seen as very professional and highly skilled in holding the top army post.
He was presidential adjutant for President Megawati Soekarnoputri, and Kopassus chief in 2008 and 2009.
The best Military Academy graduate in 1980, he was also Siliwangi (West Java) military commander in 2009, and in 2010 became Army`s Strategic Command (Kostrad) chief.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by several cabinet ministers, Chief of Police General Timur Pradopo, People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) chairman Taufik Kiemas, and former army leaders.
