United Nations (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday condemned the terrorist attacks in India`s commercial capital of Mumbai, saying no cause or grievance can justify indiscriminate violence against civilians, according to a statement released here by his spokesperson.

"The secretary-general condemns the attacks that have killed and injured many today in Mumbai," said the statement, stressing that "no cause or grievance can justify indiscriminate violence against civilians".

The secretary-general also expressed his solidarity with the government and people of India, and extended his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the statement said.

Three serial blasts rocked India`s financial hub Mumbai at around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, killing at least 21 people, injuring 141, said the local government which believed it is a terror attack.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik said three blasts happened between 6:54 and 7:05 all in congested area in the evening, the first at crowded Zaveri Bazaar in South Mumbai, the second at Opera House again in South Mumbai a minute later which are more intense and the third in a bus stop in Dadar West, central Mumbai near railway station at 7:05.

Downtown Mumbai came under triple attacks Wednesday evening, which took place within minutes of each other. India`s Home Ministry confirmed them as terrorist attacks.

It was the first major terrorist attack in the city after the 2008 siege that left 160 people dead. The U.S. and Indian intelligence communities believed the 2008 attacks were carried out by Islamic militants based in Pakistan. (*)
