Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Regional administrations on Sumatra Island have decided to strive for the acceleration of the Sunda Strait Bridge project.

The Sunda Strait bridge issue was the main agenda of discussion in a technical coordinating meeting on the Sumatra Regional Development Planning, South Sumatra`s Deputy Governor Eddy Yusuf said here on Wednesday after the opening of the meeting.

The second priority agenda was the repairs of road infrastructures from the tip of Aceh to Riau Islands, he said, adding that the renovation of seaports and railways were also import for smooth flow of food and passengers.

Sumatra Island, one of Indonesia`s major island, has 10 provinces, from Aceh up to Riau Islands.

Chief of the South Sumatra Regional Development Plan Agency Yohannes Toruan said the meeting was directed to agree on the acceleration of development in Sumatra.

Among the development projects to be sped up their implementation were roads, railway, Sunda Strait bridge and Malaka Bridge connecting Riau and Malaka, Yohannes said.

Indonesia intends to accelerate and expand its economic development and to that end is soon to adopt a master plan.

The Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) had been discussed since 2010 and was aimed at spreading development across the country`s regions.

Total projects in the MP3EI are worth around Rp3,000 trillion until 2014 from state-owned companies, private companies, public funds and foreign direct investment.
