Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Austria inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the recruitment of professional and skilled workers.

Secretary-General of the Indonesian Manpower Ministry Anwar Sanusi and State Secretary of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labor and Economy Susanne Kraus-Winkler signed the MoU in Jakarta on Monday (May 13).

In her ministry's statement received here on Tuesday, Indonesian Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah welcomed the signing of the cooperation document, deeming it consistent with the Indonesian government's efforts to capitalize on the upcoming demographic bonus.

"We can benefit from the demographic bonus by boosting the relevance between the quality of the workforce and the needs of the job market while broadening opportunities for our workers to work abroad," she stated.

To implement the MoU on skilled workers' recruitment, she noted that the Indonesian Government would collaborate with several Austrian institutions, including the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Business Agency.

"The provisions put forward in the Indonesia-Austria MoU also reflect our shared commitment to taking the required legal steps for accessing the Austrian job market and ensuring protection for the rights and welfare of Indonesian talents working in the country," she elaborated.

Fauziyah further added that the MoU encourages the establishment of a joint committee tasked with overseeing the agreement's implementation, the formulation of a guidance, and the holding of annual meetings aimed at promoting sustainable dialogues and collaboration.

"This (MoU) also emphasized the need to conduct bilateral exchange of insights on policy-making, take initiatives to enhance technical capacity, and establish cultural cooperation to attract Indonesian professional and skilled workers to pursue a career in Austria," she concluded.
