Multi-award winning mall showcases the first of its kind retail concept in the entire Southeast Asia region

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the world's premier shopping and lifestyle destination, has officially opened its doors to its newest iconic precinct and tourist destination, Tokyo Street. The new one of a kind retail concept which offers shoppers a 360-degree retail experience was ceremoniously opened by His Excellency Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, and Datin Cindy Lim, Deputy Chairman of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Tokyo Street promises shoppers a completely new shopping experience with a fresh vibrant mix of Japanese F&B, retail and services brands. Designed to meet the ever changing consumer fashion trends and lifestyle, Tokyo Street is dedicated solely to Japan?s high fashion, gourmet cuisine and cutting edge home ware based on the extensive research done which revealed a rising trend in Japanese food, art and culture in Malaysia.

Inspired by Asakusa, a district in Tokyo that blends the urban cosmopolite feel with the rich heritage and traditions of Japan, Tokyo Street welcomes visitors with a giant lantern the same way as the iconic landmark of Asakusa, the Senso-ji Buddhist Temple.

Speaking at the official launch of Tokyo Street, Datin Cindy Lim, Deputy Chairman of Pavilion KL said, "Japan is a country that is full of interesting and fascinating culture, arts, food, music, and fashion which is so appealing to everyone. And we are proud that Tokyo Street, a vibrant, must-visit destination for locals and tourists can only be found at one place in Southeast Asia - and that is Malaysia and at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, one of the world's best shopping mall." Tokyo Street has successfully secured 100% occupancy, with 32 confirmed brands, among which 70% of the brands are debuting for the first time in Malaysia.

Pavilion KL aims to recognize Tokyo Street as a prime tourism destination in Bukit Bintang targeting 70% locals and 30% tourists. It also aims to attract shoppers and tourists with an enthusiasm for Japanese food, arts and culture, as well as the Japanese expatriate community in Malaysia who can head to Tokyo Street for a taste and feel of home.

Amongst the 300 distinguished guests who attended the milestone event were Dato' Dr Ong Hong Peng, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Dr Victor Wee, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, as well as senior delegates from the Japanese business community organizations, namely the Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry (JACTIM), Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), the Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur (JCKL) and Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro). Pavilion KL looks to working closely with these entities to position Tokyo Street as a platform to promote economic relations and bilateral ties between Malaysia and Japan, in the areas of international trading, commerce, investment and retail.
