Posting on a Facebook page, dissidents from the central city of Homs pledged nightly protests that would continue until dawn during Ramadan.
Homs is the site of some of Syria`s most violent clashes between protesters and armed forces loyal to the government. At least four people were reportedly killed there on Friday when saboteurs blew up an oil pipeline, according to local media.
"A subversive group targeted an oil pipeline near Homs at dawn with an improvised explosive device," state news agency SANA said.
Homs has paid for its history of dissent.
In 1982 al-Assad`s predecessor and father Hafez al-Assad killed tens-of-thousands of people in Homs to destroy the Muslim Brotherhood movement.
More than 1,600 people have been killed and around 26,000 arrested in Syria since an uprising against president Bashar al-Assad`s government started in March, according to unconfirmed reports. (*)
