Poverty still exist while many people find it hard to get access to education,"Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Care for Papua and West Papua Communities Alliance has urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate suspected corruption in the spending of developmental funds for Papua, a spokesman said.
"The KPK must follow up the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK)`s findings last 2010 about suspected corruption in the spending of Special Autonomy Funds for Papua and West Papua provinces," the alliance`s chairman, Franky Umpain, said here on Tuesday.
Franky said since the time special autonomy was implemented in Papua until 2011, the situation in Papua had not yet changed. "Poverty still exist while many people find it hard to get access to education," he said.
He said, according to BPK`s investigation, during the period of 2002 to 2010 the central government had disbursed Rp28 trillion for development program in Papua and West Papua provinces. Of the number, Rp566 billion among them cannot be accounted.
During investigation conducted by BPK last 2010, Franky said, there was a Rp211 billion of regional spending that had no written evidence. There was also a Rp326 billion of spending for goods and services not in accordance to regulation.
Franky said he had met with representative from KPK last June 27 to discuss about the alleged corruption case. "KPK promises to follow up BPK`s finding," he said.
He expressed hope that KPK and the central government would seriously investigate the corruption case. (*)
