The governor said insufficient stock of some basic commodities which used to happen in the province would not occur during the fasting month this year.
"Food supplies had been predicted to remain sufficient during the fasting month until Lebaran festivity for we will continue to tighten supervision of speculators," the governor said.
Based on his field observation, Governor Hasan Basri said some of basic necessities such as meat, fish, vegetables, and chili would be sufficient for the consumers in the province.
Especially with regard to meat and fish stocks, the government said the fish breeders in the province were ready to meet the demand at local markets.
He said the fish breeders were able to supply 12 tons of fish per day to meet the local people`s demand as well as that of the people in the neighboring provinces of West Sumatra and South Sumatra.
According to the governor, fish potential in Jambi was tremendous and therefore the province could meet its own fish demand and that of other neighboring provinces.
"Therefore we are going to develop this area into a special fish farming region," Governor Hasan Basri said.
Besides, the governor also promised to help develop the downstream industry of fish in Jambi to turn it into fish crackers and shredded fish.
"That`s what we are going to develop in the future," the governor said adding that vegetable stock was also in abidance and sufficient for the consumers during the fasting month.
He said the farmers in Jambi could produce 10 tons of vegetable per day to supply the local markets.
