"Most of them came to Bali by direct flights. Only two went to Bali by cruise liner," Head of the Bali Provincial Statistics Office I Gede Suarsa said here on Saturday.
Despite the shortfall, Taiwan remained in the fifth place as a source of Bali`s foreign tourists after Australia, China, Japan and Malaysia.
Last year, a total of 122,255 Taiwanese tourists visited the world-renowned tourist resort, up 1.50 percent from the previous year when the figure was 120,445.
Gede Suarsa said the Taiwanese tourists contributed 5.01 percent of the overall tourist arrivals in Bali in the first semester of 2011 which reached 1.30 million, a 10.46 percent increase compared to 1.18 million in the same period last year.
He said the number of tourists from eight of top ten sources of the province`s foreign tourist arrivals rose significantly in the first semester of 2011.
Tourist arrivals from Australia rose 29.33 percent from 278,049 to 348,489, China 8,29 percent from 98,258 to 106,400, Malaysia 20.56 percent from 69,251 to 83,491 and South Korea 0.99 percent from 59,384 to 59,971.
Tourist arrivals from Singapore increased 34.19 percent from 41,483 to 65,66, Britain 25.86 percent from 38,526 to 48,489, France 7.73 percent from 42,211 to 45,473 and the United States 24.15 percent from 33,268 to 41,303.
However, tourist arrivals from Japan fell 26 percent to 88,605 from 119,731 and Taiwan 0.35 percent to 65,360 from 65,589.
