Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has finalized its order for the purchase of 25 units of A320 Family airplanes through a memorandum of understanding it announced in a recent air show, its president director said.

Garuda Indonesia President & CEO Emirsyah Satar said here on Wednesday that the purchase order made Garuda as a new customer for A320 Family aircraft, which consisted of 15 standard A320s and 10 units of the A320neo type.

All the ordered aircraft will be operated by Citilink, a low-cost airlines owned by Garuda Indonesia. With the order, Citilink is ready to perform its potential.

"We believe the modern and environment-friendly aircraft would be able to help Garuda win the market share in the low-cost flight sector," Emirsyah said.

He said that Airbus had expressed its readiness to provide support for Garuda and it introduced the type of its new aircraft.

In the meantime, Chief Operating Officer Customers of Airbus John Leahy hailed Garuda Indonesia for becoming its new customer for A320 Family aircraft.

Citilink will reap benefit because A320 Family airplanes have the quality which are liked by passengers with low operational cost.

More than 7,700 A320 Family airplanes have been ordered of which 4,700 units have been delivered to more than 330 airlines operators throughout the world.(*)
