Tel Aviv (ANTARA News/RIA Novosti) - Israel`s army is planting new land mines along the armistice line with Syria in a bid to dissuade protesters from attempting to rush into the Golan Heights, Israeli media said on Sunday.

The old mines failed to explode when the Palestinian and Syrian supporters crossed the borders into Golan in mid May, according to the Israeli army`s weekly magazine Ba`mahaneh.

The preparations come as part of Israel`s increased measures ahead of demonstrations that Palestinians plan to hold in September, Ba`mahaneh reported.

The Israeli army announced a few days ago that it will also deploy more troops along the northern borders with Syria and the northwestern borders with Lebanon in order to rebuff any mass incursion into Israel.
