"The questioning happened in a quite professional way, in accordance with the criminal procedures code. I am glad," OC Kaligis said after accompanying graft suspect Nazaruddin in the questioning by KPK here on Thursday.
Kaligis said during the interrogation he and his client had made several requests, including that Nazaruddin no longer be handcuffed.
He said his client had also asked to be moved from the Mobile Briagde (Brimob) detention center in Depok, West Java, to the Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta.
Kaligis said his client had sent a letter to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono stating he was ready to receive the harshest possible sentence as long as his wife and children were left alone.
He said his client had also asked law enforcers to sentence him right away without going through a trial process.
"Just punish me. I will not say anything about the Democrat Party," he said.
Kaligis said his client`s request would be written into the minutes of his statements to investigators.
He said he had not intervened in his client`s statements during the interrogation. "As a lawyer, I only witnessed and listened, I did not interfere," he said.
Regarding his client`s request to be taken under the wings of the LPSK (Victims and Witnesses Protection Institute), Kaligis said the application had been sent to LPSK, adding reporters should ask the LPSK about it.
Meanwhile, LPSK chief Abdul Haris Semendawai had said that LPSK would protect Nazaruddin only if he was a witness.
Nazaruddin`s status now was a suspect and there was no word so far he would be questioned as a witness soon, Abdul said after meeting with KPK leaders to conduct coordination in connection with calls for his office`s role in connection with Nazaruddin.
He said LPSK would still see if Nazaruddin would be questioned as a witness later. He said LPSK was not yet protecting Nazaruddin but had only conducted coordination with KPK.
