"Indonesia is expecting a peaceful settlement and not violence or war and it is up to Libya to determine its future through a good process," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said.Cipatat, West Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has expressed concern over the current security situation in Libya and hope that a peaceful settlement will be achieved to prevent further bloodshed among civilians.
"Indonesia is expecting a peaceful settlement and not violence or war and it is up to Libya to determine its future through a good process," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Tuesday before breaking the fast with members of the Infantry Education Center.
He said the Indonesian government hoped the conflict there could be ended immediately so that Libya could restore order and security and protect its civilian population.
"Based on what we have seen now is a dangerous time with regard to the safety of Tripoli residents in particular and the Libyan people in general," he said.
The President said that the immediate settlement was needed all for the safety of the people of Libya.
President Yudhoyono said if a new chapter was to emerge in Libya it would certainly have to be determined by the people of Libya themselves, referring to the retaking of Mecca without bloodshed by Prophet Muhammad as an example.
He said the democratic transition that would probably happen in Libya must be done by involving all elements so that Libya`s future would be really like what the people wished to be.
"We also hope that after the settlement of the conflict later Libya could carry out consolidation and transition towards a future like what the people want while recovering its economy," he said.
Libya`s oil production has dropped by around 90 percent to affect the world supply and make the price of oil to soar.(*)
