More and more tourists visit Baron every year so it needs more rescue workers than any other beaches,"Gunung Kidul (ANTARA News) - A Search and Rescue (SAR) team in Gunung Kidul district, Yogyakarta province, will field 48 personnel to a number of beaches during the post-fasting month festivities.
The 48 rescue workers would be stationed on the Baron, Sundak, Krakal, and Ngenean beaches in the district, coordinator of the Gunung Kidul Search and Rescue team Sunardi said on Saturday.
The number of rescue workers was the same as that of last year, he said.
He said at least eight rescue workers would be stationed on the Baron beach alone to anticipate a surge in the number of visitors to one of the main tourist destinations in the district.
"More and more tourists visit Baron every year so it needs more rescue workers than any other beaches," he said.
He said some of the rescue workers had been stationed on the beaches seven or eight days before the Idul Fitri festivities which will fall at the end of this month.
Meanwhile, Head of the Gunung Kidul Culture and Tourism Office Suryoaji said to avoid a concentration of visitors on the Baron beach they were advised to visit other beaches in the district, such as Krakal, Kukup and Sundak beaches.
What was more, the size of Baron beach edge itself had been reduced because of abrasion over the past few weeks, he said.
"The size of beach edge has declined by 30 percent from the previous condition so it has an impact on its capacity of accommodating visitors," he said.(*)
