"About 140 kiosks at 3 blocks were gutted by the fire," Bandung City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Widodo Eko Prihastopo said.
The fire was first detected in the middle of the market where kiosks selling used cloths, vegetables and fruits were located, he quoted a young coconut seller as saying.
By 10.30 a.m. 16 fire trucks from the Bandung city fire department, the Bandung district administration and state oil and gas company Pertamina were still trying to put out the blaze.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire.
