"TK has been convicted for drug dealing several times before," head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police`s public relations section, Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar, said here on Wednesday.
He said the police had arrested four suspects involved in the international narcotics syndicate.
The suspects were identified by their initials as DPA alias RNA (woman), SK alias AT, SN alias AND (Malaysian national) and RND.
The director of the Jakarta police`s anti drug unit, Senior Commissioner Nugroho Aji, said SK and SN were arrested on Jalan Raya Lautze in Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta, on Friday (Sept 10).
Based on information from SK and SN, police on Saturday (Sept 10) arrested DPA at the Green Park View Apartment, and later, on Tuesday (Sept 13), RNA at the Arco Complex, Pancoran Mas, Depok, West Java.
From the four suspects, the police confiscated 51,729 ecstasy pills, 1.5 kilograms of meth, eight cellphones and an electric scale.
Nugroho said investigators would also question TK who was believed to have masterminded the activity of the ring members while serving time in a Nusakabangan prison.
"He was able to communicate with the ring members outside because he had a cellphone," Nugroho said.
He said investigators had found clues that the drugs circulated in the country by the four suspects came from AB (Malaysian) and TG who operated in the Netherlands and Iran.
The meth was sent from Iran and the ecstasy from the Netherlands.
The drug supply line went through Malaysia from where it was smuggled to Medan , North Sumatra, by sea and then taken to Jakarta by land.
He said the four suspects would be charged with violating several articles in Law No 35/2009 on narcotics which carry penalties ranging from five years imprisonment to death.
