"I still have a firm belief that we will be able to handle our affairs well," the President said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono believed that Indonesia will overcome the adverse effects of the financial crisis currently facing the countries in Europe and the United States.

"I still have a firm belief that we will be able to handle our affairs well," the President said at his office in Jakarta Friday when chairing a limited session anticipating the effects of the global crisis.

In the last three days, the adverse effects of the global economic crisis have caused some domestic economic problems including correcting the capital market and the rupiah exchange rates.

However, the President said, with the right adjustments and measures there is no need for panic or excessive worry.

"God willing, if the system is operating well, and we continue handling the problem, we will have an initiative to make things even better," he said while referring to Indonesia`s successes in dealing with the global crisis in 2008 and 2009.

On the occasion the President said he had a dialog with Vice President Boediono and Coordinating Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa to communicate the operational measures that had been taken.

"I am happy and thankful to the Governor of BI as well as the relevant ministers for their measures like those we would take in an abnormal situation," he said praising the measures that had been taken to maintain domestic economic stability this week.

President Yudhoyono held a limited session when he arrived back in Jakarta from a working visit to Jambi and before that attended a meeting with Syeikh Nawawi Al Bantani at the An Nawawi Islamic religious school in Banten.

In the limited session, the President underlined the need for timely and right measures.(*)
