Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Community Recreational Sports Federation (FORMI) will be holding traditional sport matches in the National Recreational Sports festival (FORNAS) from October 6 through 9, 2011, the events coordinator said.

A total of 26 sport games will be competed during the event scheduled to be opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, FORNAS coordinator Prahmanda Rizky Pratama said here on Sunday.

"The sport games will be concluded by World Walking Day to be held on October 9," Pratama said.

Some of the traditional sport games are locally known as terompah panjang, dagongan, egrang, liong and barongsai dances, pencak silat (martial arts) and tarik tambang (tug of war).

Meanwhile, Suherman, one of the FORMI officials hoped the first-ever sports festival would be programmed into the National Sports Week (PON) for traditional sports.

FORNAS was aimed at introducing and preserving traditional sports to the community, FORNAS coordinator Prahmanda Rizky Pratama said. (*)
