Langkat, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Rescue workers have already found the Casa 212 plane that crashed in Bahorok, Langkat, North Sumatra, but are still unable to begin evacuation work due to bad weather.

"The missing plane has been found but evacuation of the aircraft wreck or victims cannot yet be done now," " Langkat police chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mardiyono said here on Friday.

"The weather is very bad and it is raining very hard there now," he said.

However. two members of the rescue team had been successfully dropped on the crash site in the Mount Leuser National Park.

He said the helicopter carrying the rescue team was unable to drop more men due to the bad weather which had even forced it to return to base.

The rescue operation had been stopped and would be continued on Saturday. "Two rescue team members however have been dropped at the crash site and are now trying to find and help possible survivors," he said.

The Casa 212-200 plane with 18 people on board including its crew crashed into a Bohorok jungle when it was flying from Medan to Kutacane, Aceh, Thursday morning.

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has set up four teams to locate and evacuate victims of the plane crash.

"Three teams went to the scene by land and another team by air," Vice Marshal Daryatmo said at the SAR command post in Medan.

The air-borne team was able to drop two of its members on the crash site from an altitude of 300 meters.(*)
