Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Flash flooding, caused by the overflowing of Landak River in the Bukit Lawang tourist resort, Langkat District, North Sumatra, on early Wednesday, had destroyed a suspension bridge and smashed away 13 wooden and bamboo kiosks.

Thirteen cows were also smashed away but there were no fatalities in the catastrophe that occurred following heavy rainfall showering the areas from 00.00 to 02.00 a.m. local time, Bahorok Subdistrict Head Dameka Putra Singarimbun said here Wednesday.

In the aftermath of the flash floods that affected the areas of Sampe Raya, Timbang Lawan, Timbang Jaya, and Lau Damak Villages in Bahorok Subdistrict, the Langkat Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) sent its personnel to disaster zones.

Along with local residents as well as military and police personnel, the BPBD officials removed flood debris and mud, he said.

Regarding the collapsed suspension bridge, BPBD-Langkah Office's acting head, Iwan Sahri, said it was located in VIII Pulo Pisang Hamlet of Timbang Lawan Village.
